Policy on Conduct of Participation

The Foundations of Interstellar Studies workshop were set up to facilitate a forum for rigorous and reasoned debate on topics relevant to the exploration and colonisation of interstellar space. We expect all participants to treat each other with the greatest respect and we have a low tolerance for any conduct which undermines this ethic or creates an unsafe environment for people to think freely in a democratic society. Presenters and participants are selected purely on the basis of merit, and what technical contributions they can make to the discussions or assistance they can bring to the success of the meeting. We make no considerations for your gender, ethnicity, nationality, age, sexual orientation, religious or philosophical beliefs. Before the cosmos we stand as one, separated only by our different experiences of life.

That said, we allow discussions on any topics that are relevant to the meeting agenda, and we will not accept the closing down of discussions because they are thought to be controversial, unpopular, or an outliar to a consensus position. Instead, we encourage open debate among civil people and the friendly exchange of ideas and perspectives. Provided all discussions are conducted with respect, we believe that their is greater value to be gained in the diversity of view points, rather than in the convergence of consensus due to societal pressures or political correctness. All arguments must rise or fall based on their own merits and the evidence presented. Any attempts to politically subvert the meeting agenda will be dealt with harshly to include ejection from the meeting.

Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you wil not find another
